Death Junction Extinguished

(Michalovce, December 16, 2008) – Today, in a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by the State Minister of Ministry of Transport, Posts, and Telecommunications of the Slovak Republic Mr.Milan Mojš, Inžinierske stavby, a. s., Košice as a member of the COLAS group shall hand over a new roundabout on the road No.I/50 in the urban area of the Michalovce town for utilization. A long-awaited junction designs anew connection of the Lastomírska Street and the third class road with the transit thorough-flow in the direction of Ukraine and is of an immense significance for the residents of the town and its surroundings. The intersection having been known for a high accident rate should represent a matter of the past from now on. Road traffic shall be heavily decongested at the aforementioned places. 
The construction provider was the company of Slovenská správa ciest, Investičná výstavba and  Správa ciest Košice and the company of Dopravoprojekt, a.s. Bratislava, Divízia Prešov was in charge of the project engineering. The newly constructed junction design shall increase capacity, continuity, and safety of traffic even for the pedestrians. The junction shall cover capacity demand until the year of 2040 minimally and with the shaping it shall become a remarkable town-forming element. Construction works had lasted for less than a year and had been financed out of the state budget, which provided funds amounting to SKK 36m exclusive of VAT. Reconstruction had been carried out without traffic elimination and with insignificant restrictions arising for the drivers. Apart from the traffic, number of the engineering networks crossing the construction site along with subgrade of lower quality having required more frequent surfacing and reinforcing represented major problem in the construction process. Despite arduous conditions, under which the constructors had worked, a safer and more comfortable driving is awaiting for the residents of the Michalovce town.
