The Cornerstone for the D1 Motorway Studenec - Mengusovce laid
(Košice, April 2nd, 2009) – On April 2nd Inžinierske stavby of Košice, as a leading member of an implementation consortium of Inžinierske stavby, a.s. – EUROVIA – Cesty, a.s., shall commence construction of a new highway section of D1 Studenec – Beharovce by tapping on the foundation stone in the Studenec municipality. The construction shall be handed over for preliminary utilization by the end of May next year. The order party of this 3.3 km long section is represented by Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, a.s. . The highway begins at a connection point with the preceding section of D1 Jablonov – Studenec and terminates at the intersection of Beharovce outside the Branisko tunnel. After the construction has been completed, it shall take over a significant part of transit freight traffic from the existing road No. I/18. The highway shall run below Spiš Castle and replace thoroughfare along a historical tree-lined avenue being known more for a high frequency of serious accidents than for its picturesqueness.
A highway survey respects the ostensible territory the character of which shall not be disturbed by the construction. Construction costs amounting to € 20m, exclusive of VAT, shall be covered by national budget finances and order party’s resources along with contribution coming from the European Union Cohesion Fund.
